Ktima Gerovassiliou Avaton is a multi-varietaldry red wine, produced from a blend of the most distinctive indigenous Greek varieties: Limnio (the oldest recorded Greek variety) which dominates the blend, Mavroudi, and Mavrotragano. It is produced in the Epanomi region of Thessaloniki (PGI Epanomi).
Appearance: Brilliant deep purple hue.
Aromas: A complex bouquet of spices with ripe black fruits (blackberry), raisins, coffee and cocoa.
Palate: On the palate, elegant tannins are supported by an abundance of fruitty aromas, giving it bold character and balance. It features a long-lasting finish with recurring spicy notes.
Vinification & Aging: Following maceration and the completion of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in special oak vats, the wine is aged in French oak barrels.
Aging Potential: It shows great potential for evolution in the bottle, which can reach 10–15 years (or even longer depending on the vintage).
It pairs ideally with red meat stews in spicy sauces, furred game (e.g., wild boar, venison) and rich, mature cheeses.Best served at 16–18 °C.
